What springs to mind when you hear the term ‘duplex’ or ‘dual occupancy property’? Usually, it brings images of classic Victorian housing to life, complete with a wall wedged through the middle to provide two different living spaces.

As luxury home builders, Leeneva wanted to deliver something truly boutique and special when we were presented with the challenge of designing and constructing dual properties on a two-unit site at Ferntree Gully.

Let’s start with a bit about Ferntree Gully first. For those unfamiliar with Greater Melbourne, this suburb is where the city meets the bush, offering the best of both worlds regarding amenities and lifestyle.

Knox City Council’s planning restrictions mean that residents can breathe in the mountain air of the Dandenongs, hear kookaburras cackling in old, sprawling gumtrees, and still reside within easy distance of schools, shopping, medical centres and access to metropolitan Melbourne. When you’re after the best of both worlds – convenience meets stunning scenery – Ferntree Gully truly has it all.

But it still comes with a challenge

We had a corner block at our disposal, but it wasn’t the typical place for units or townhouses to best maximise profits. Ferntree Gully homes are for families who want space, so the challenge was to make the most of the land – a task our custom home builders were up to.



Lifting the curtain: the final result

The families moving into these twin properties are set to be stunned by the amount of space they have on hand. Each home includes a generous entertainment area, roomy yard and views of local parkland for the ultimate balance in serenity.
